Consumer Review: Good Bike for the PriceMy bike arrived with all pieces intact but no assembly directions. Assembly seemed very straight foward so I went ahead and put it together. All the pieces were there and it took me no more than 30 minutes by myself. So although there were no printed directions included (which I’m sure was a fluke) the bike was quite easy to put together. I’m not sure why some of the other reviewers had problems with assembly. Maybe the printed assembly instructions make it more confusing than not having any instructions?I really like this bike so far. It’s quiet and comfortable. Good design, it’s not a monstrosity and I love the low profile of the moniter. I can exercise while watching tv, which was my plan. I think it’s a great buy for a basic exercise bike.Love my bikeI love this bike. It was hard to put together. It says you need all these pieces, but you really don’t. After 4 hours and a lot of frustration I got it together. It definitely needs a better manual for putting it together. I love the bike now that it’s together. And you do need two people to assemble it. Getting the seat on is very hard by yourself. I had to prop it up on a pillow.

The Study that May Debunk the Low Fat Diet

Filed under: Dieting Trends, Diet Reviews — EatingToLive @ 10:49 pm

A specific study has prompted new questions was a government backed project with almost 20,000 total participants, including a control group of about 10,000 people. Most of the participants were overweight women who were past the menopausal stage of life. The study monitored the women’s fat-modified diets in order to gauge whether the radical reduction of fat in their diet led to any significant changes in their frequency of cancer and heart disease. The other 10,000 women were on unchanged diets, eating as they always had. The researchers found in their conclusions of the tests that the results in the control “low fat” group were less than a compelling argument for the low fat diet. The control group did not show any statistically significant alterations in their tendencies to develop heart disease or different types of cancers.

Facts about IBS

Filed under: Health News — EatingToLive @ 11:29 pm

IBS comes in many forms. In most cases it manifests inuncontrollable, unpredictable, and sudden urges to evacuatethe bowels. The stool of a person suffering symptoms of irritablebowel tends to be inconsistent in that it jumps from hard to pass(constipation), and painfully sudden and watery and cramp-inducing(diarrhea).Some people with the condition will experience either constantconstipation with occasional bouts of “relief” in the form of diarrhea, and yet other experience a constant state of runny stool, cramping and excessive water loss. One thing is for certain, IBS causes weight gain and excess water retention in most of its sufferers, and there are a lot of people who are affected by this condition - the estimate is about 2 out of every 10 people, and even more than that have irregular bowels and bowel movements.
As you can imagine, either of these types of irregular colon activity can definitely cramp your lifestyle and cause a lot of discomfort. Not only that, the condition can many times lead to serious health implications for the colon such as colon polyps and even colon cancer. This is why cleansing and detoxification is so important - not only for weight loss and maintenance, but for long term colon health.

McDonald’s Sued Over Ingredients of Fries

Filed under: Health News — EatingToLive @ 8:30 pm

Once again Mcdonalds is in trouble. The fast food giant has apparently mislead the public about the true ingredients of is famous golden fries. Read below for more info (AP) McDonald’s Corp. faces at least three lawsuits claiming the fast-food giant misled the public after it acknowledged earlier this week its french fries contain milk and wheat ingredients. Debra Moffatt of Lombard, Ill., seeks unspecified damages in a suit filed Friday in Chicago. Her attorney, Thomas Pakenas, said his client has celiac disease, which causes gastrointestinal symptoms set off by eating gluten, a protein found in wheat. Jack Daly, McDonald’s senior vice president, said in a statement the company had not reviewed the case yet and is testing its fries for gluten through a food allergy research program at the University of Nebraska. Mark and Theresa Chimiak of Jupiter, Fla., sued Friday in Florida, claiming their 5-year-old daughter has an intolerance to gluten and became seriously ill after eating the fries. Nadia Sugich of Los Angeles sued Wednesday, saying she eats no animal products and would not have eaten the fries had she known they contained dairy ingredients. McDonald’s, based in Oak Brook, Ill., said Monday that wheat and dairy products are used to flavor its fries. Before its acknowledgment Monday, the company had quietly added “Contains wheat and milk ingredients” to the french fries listing on its Web site.

Cancer from Soda?

Filed under: Health News — EatingToLive @ 10:15 pm

DA finds Benzene levels rising in soda
An interesting story caught my eye today. Apparently a cancer causing agent that is found in soda has increased in dosage over the last decade. When first discovered the beverage companies told the government that they would handle it. Wow, thanks for looking out for us. Fifteen years later the cancer causing chemicle is turning up again. teh FDA has found levels in some soft drinks higher than it was in 1990. Which is 2 to 4 times higher than whats in drinking water. considered safe for drinking water. Statements made about benzene have that the higher traces are not found in major brands and found in a very small number of products. Well, why not reduce the higher level? I guess you can ingest more benzene with breathing than drinking a soda. So what is benzene? It is a industrial chemica found in tobacco smoke, paint, car exhaust, and detergents. Exposure can cause leukemia and other cancers of the blood. Benzene can be found in soda when two ingredients interact, Vitamin C, and Sodium Benzoate or Potassim Benzoate. The benzoates are used to prevent bacteria. Now just because these two things are present doesn’t mean that benzene will be present. A catalyst is needed, such as temperature or light. So its kind of a dicey situation hopefully a current investigation will clean up this problem.

New Alternative to Gastric Bypass

Filed under: Health News, Weight Loss — EatingToLive @ 9:16 pm

People who are extremely overweight and looking for less invasive or dangerous medical alternatives to the gastric bypass procedure may now have a new option. The fairly new and “experimental phase) procedure is called lap band surgery. A device is placed AROUND your stomach that makes you eat less due to the pressure created and the restrictive force which makes you feel much fuller - much faster. Unlike the gastric bypass surgery procedure, this newer less invasive technique does not actually change your anatomy. Patients who have gotten this procedure have reported seeing some pretty dramatic results. The band is placed around the individual’s stomach, which is attached to another small device called a port. The doctor injects a small amount of saline into the band, which narrows the stomach, so that when the patient eats, it doesn’t take much of anything to feel like they’ve eaten a full plate. Downside (There’s always one, isn’t there?) : You cannot drink water thirty minutes before or after a meal. Excess skin - just like with gastric bypass this new procedure is only performed on obese individuals, so the rapid and dramatic weightloss often leads to slackened, hanging loose skin after the dramatic transformation. Many time this may require additional plastic surgery to remove.
