Low Fat Hot Chocolate
I created a new favorite of mine for the holiday season, with way less guilt than the regular stuff. Hot chocolate is one of the favorite “cozy” season treats. Who doesn’t love a good cup of steaming hot cocoa, sitting in front of a fireplace, melting all your cares away. Two good things about this easy recipe for low fat/low sugar hot chocolate I’m about to share with you.
1.) It’s hot so it actually helps you feel full and satiated.
2.) It’s made with pure cocoa, so you get the benefits of real, pure cocoa (antioxidants) without all the sugar and fat, which is actually what kind of counters the goodness in chocolate.
Here’s how to make it. It’s really easy, so if you blink you may miss it!
First, take fat free skim milk, heat it on the stove or in the microwave until it’s steaming. Don’t overdo it or you may scald the milk. Then, take a heaping tablespoon full of pure, unsweetened cocoa powder (I used Toll House brand, but I’m sure you could find a natural or organic brand as well that’s a little less processed), dump it in your steaming milk.
Then, take about a half teaspoon or a full packet of Stevia, my favorite sweetener (read more on this later). Swirl it all together and you’ve got one darn good cup of lowfat, guilt free, sugarless hot cocoa! If you want to get really fancy, add some lowfat cool whip to the top, or use fat free. Delish!
