How to Suppress Hunger
Well, this is quite a subject to tackle, especially as I sit writing this, during the holiday season, when hunger seems to be running rampant since everywhere I look, I’m tempted with sweet, buttery, sugary, salty treats that are easy on the taste buds, not so easy on the thighs.
But let’s think of what hunger really is. How often are we convinced that we are “hungry”, when we are really just sort of bored, or we just want to eat for comfort or for the socialization aspect of eating? I know I can place many of my pigouts in categories other than me just being really hungry.
Because our minds can often fool us into thinking we are hungry when we’re not truly physiologically in need of caloric intake, and because we have been conditioned to think that food is a fun pastime, not simply something we do to get us to the next day, for sustenance and enjoyment of life to the fullest, we have developed into a society plagued by obesity and eating disorders.
There are numerous ways that you can suppress your hunger, it’s just a matter of figuring out how to suppress your hunger to the best of your ability, for your body type, your natural hormone levels, and your natural affinities toward food and food quantities.
Let me tell you today what works for me, and how I suppress my hunger, especially when I’m actively trying to trim down, say after the holidays. These always work for me, and they can work for you too, even if you think you have a bottomless pit for a stomach and are hopelessly stuck with a perpetually ravenous appetite. So, relax, trust me, and let’s a take journey into the ways you can suppress hunger and meet and attain your weight goals so you can be the lean, mean living machine that mother nature intended you to be.
My first little trick, which is totally natural and actually gives me a feeling of great peace in addition to a significant reduction in my hunger, is to listen to my weight loss hypnosis cd’s at night before I go to bed.
It provides a sort of cognitive behavioral override that gives me that hidden edge to where I’m just naturally more likely to not eat when I don’t need to. I notice the results instantly in my reduced hunger the very first time, the next day drinking more water and eating less, it just seems “effortless”, and with continued use, it helps me eliminate hunger even more.
Another tip for suppressing hunger is to take a half teaspoon of pure natural cinnamon (no sugar added!) in the morning. Sometimes I’ll just add it to my oatmeal, which by the way is also a great appetite suppressant to eat in the morning and start the day off right by giving your blood sugar the stabilization it needs to reduce hunger all day long. Cinnamon is a natural appetite suppressant and blood sugar stabilizer.
When I need a supplement to help me reduce my hunger, I ALWAYS go for what I feel is the best all natural appetite suppression agent on the market today, Hoodia. In case you haven’t read about this little plant, it’s a powerful hunger (and thirst) suppressant, but only it’s most pure and natural, potent form. You can read more about the brand of hoodia that I use and prefer here.
This supplement is great because it’s 100% hoodia with no fillers and no additional ingredients, like so many other hoodia products do, to save them money on production since hoodia is a relatively expensive ingredient to harvest and import from Africa, where it is indigenous.
I find that this controls my hunger all day long, naturally and with none of the crazy jittery feelings that many other caffeine and stimulant laced diet supplements that I have tried in vain over the years. It’s worth a look, I generally don’t like to plug a lot of supplements for weight loss, but this one particular hoodia product is really worth a look if you feel your food intake is too high.
This next tip I use to suppress my hunger and eat less calories is one of my favorites, because it involves eating. Yes, I said it involves eating, and no this is not a trick. I have found that pairing my lunches and dinners with a broth and vegetable based soup (no pasta, cream bases or potatoes, that defeats the purpose), dramatically increased my feeling of satisfaction and fullness and reduces my hunger subsequently for the rest of the day.
The great thing about broth and veggie based soups is that they expand the stomach because they are warm liquid, yet they have hardly any calories. For instance, a whole bowl of a broth and vegetable soup only contains about 80 calories, and yet it adds so much to your meal and makes you feel fuller.
Another food that I like to snack on that I find is both filling and hunger-reducing is almonds. Oh, and apples. What better way to fill up your stomach than with the fiber rich apple, and the fiber and omega 3 rich almond? Or another nut that is very satisfying and nutritious (and tasty) is the raw walnut. Walnuts are particularly fibrous, and I personally feel that these fill me up more than almonds, but that may just be a personal preference.
I think that just about covers my tips for suppressing your hunger, and how I personally help keep a lid on my own. Hey, we all have a little inner devil telling us to eat that piece of cake that we don’t need and aren’t truly hungry for, or that extra plate at dinner time that we know darn well we don’t need to sustain our lives, we need all the help we can get to keep on being that lean, mean, machine that nature meant for us to be.
Remember after all, we all sprang from hunters and gatherers, not folks who drove thru the Mickey D’s to get a McMeal whenever they wanted.
